Well established (since 1994), multi-location, full-service driving school in Northern Virginia, is looking to continue growing by hiring a Driving School Instructor (PT or FT) for Behind-the-Wheel (on the road) training. Great opportunity for a steady, flexible, 2nd/PT job.

Must Be One of the Following:
*Already DMV licensed driving instructor that’s worked for another school
*Have a valid Virginia teaching certificate with a driver education endorsement (teaching Driver’s Ed in high school)
*20 years service either as a traffic enforcement officer with patrol experience in a local police department OR as a law enforcement officer who (i) has retired or resigned while in good standing from such department, (ii) was certified through a criminal justice training academy, and (iii) has been certified to teach driver training by the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

Providing behind-the-wheel (on the road) driver training to students of all ages (Teens and Adults)
Communicate effectively with office and students (via phone, texting, or email) to set up appointments (create your own flexible schedule)
Accurately complete detailed paperwork and good record-keeping, maintain files

Work independently with VERY little supervision
Come into the main office (Herndon, VA) once a week for paperwork, supplies, and meetings
Certified by Virginia DMV as a Driving Instructor (preferred)
MUST be able to pass National FBI background check annually
MUST have valid Driver’s License, good driving record, and reliable transportation
MUST be fluent in English; bilingual in another language a plus
Minimum of 10+ years of driving experience and good driving record
Minimum of Associate’s Degree (required) and Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
Background in Traffic Safety, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or Education
STRONG attention to detail with emphasis on accurate paperwork, good record keeping
STRONG organizational skills and EXCELLENT communicator

Driver education programs are available statewide to students, adults and out-of-school youths
Driver training schools follow course content approved by VA Department of Education and are licensed by VA DMV.
The curriculum includes components about alcohol safety, drug abuse awareness, aggressive driving, distracted driving, driving emergencies, pedestrian & bicycle safety, motorcycle awareness, organ donation awareness and auto insurance info, etc.

Maximum daily hours allowed (Per VA DMV):
On “School Days” (during the school year), 2hr session is max allowed by VA DMV
On “Non School Days” (weekends, holidays, spring/summer/winter breaks), 4hr session is max allowed by VA DMV
Per the VA DMV: If the driver training school that provides classroom instruction is also providing behind-the-wheel instruction, the classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction may be done simultaneously!
For all teens (under 18) in Planning District 8, as part of the Driver Education curriculum, you must complete a mandatory one-time 90-Minute Parent/Teen Class (per the VA DMV).
Students under age 18 in Planning District 8 (counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas, and Manassas Park) must participate in this component, along with a parent or guardian, as part of the driver education curriculum.
90min PT class dates will be provided in the schedule of the course option/block that you select.
Option B (RE-EXAM): 30hrs Drivers Education Course + REQUIRED 90min Parent/Teen Course ($280) – For Students who failed DMV learners permit test 3 times
Our school is fully licensed, certified, insured, and bonded.
Since opening its doors in 1994, AA Driving Academy has had one goal: to "teach you safe, responsible and accountable driving." To date, our driving school is responsible for training, licensing, and improving the driving of 80,000 student drivers that have graduated from our academy.
Some of our instructors are active and retired police officers with numerous years of extensive training and experience in traffic law enforcement, emergency driving methods, collision investigation, and traffic court proceedings.
All of our instructors have many years of driving instruction experience, are given professional training, and are educated college graduates. They have also received specialized collegiate level training in Driver’s Education.
In addition, all are licensed as Driver Training Instructors by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), certified by American Automobile Association (AAA) and National Safety Council (NSC).
All of our instructors get their fingerprints done every year and are subject to annual national Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background checks and DMV driving record audits.
