Driver's license applicants, who fail the knowledge exam OR road skills test three (3) times at the DMV, must successfully complete the applicable knowledge OR in-vehicle component of a driver education course, before they can take the examination a fourth time at DMV.

 

You must obtain the certificate of completion to return to DMV for testing, regardless of age. For minors, this requirement is NOT removed by reaching 18 years of age. This course is mandatory for those who have failed three times and still wish to obtain a Learner’s Permit/Driver’s License in Virginia.

 

You will have 1 year to use the issued certificate of completion. If you do NOT use your certificate within the year you will need to RETAKE and PAY for the course again to be issued a NEW certificate of completion.

  • Check the DIP Calendar to view upcoming schedule
  • Complete the Pre-Registration Form online and make payment (if paying by debit/credit/Paypal)
  • Check your email (your ‘SPAM/JUNK/BULK’ folders too)
  • PRINT OUT BOTH your Confirmation Page (PDF attachment) and Paypal payment receipt
  • Present BOTH to the instructor at the beginning of your class (or if selected, bring cash)
  • Showing us the email/receipt on your phone is NOT sufficient! We need to collect these!

* Walk-In Register: $100 (Walk-in registration the day of your class)

  • On the day of class, you can pay by CASH or MONEY ORDER
  • NO Debit/Credit Card payments accepted in person
  • Absolutely NO CHECKS allowed!
  • Taught at 25 Northern Virginia locations; offered multiple times a week
  • Class available for CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) holders as well
  • Course workbook and supplies provided
    • Workbook available in Spanish
  • The Virginia DMV requires all courses to be a full eight (8) hours of instruction, not including breaks.
    • Lunch break issued in class
  • At the end of the course, students take a multiple-choice test
  • Upon meeting course requirements, students are issued a certificate of completion the same day
    • DO NOT lose or misplace your certificate. There is a $30 fee for re‑issuing certificates
  • Within 24 hrs of completing the course, we will electronically update your DMV record to reflect the course
    • We have direct access to the Virginia DMV online system
  • On the day of the class, DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY TO REGISTER!
    • JUST SHOW UP AT CLASS START TIME and DO NOT ARRIVE LATE!
  • When you arrive at the location, ask the front desk attendant where the drivers’ classroom is
  • At the beginning of the class, the instructor will need three (3) things from you:
  1. PRINTED OUT Confirmation Page (Pre-Registration Form)
    • Showing us the email on your phone is NOT sufficient; we need to physically collect this.
  2. PRINTED OUT Paypal payment receipt (if paying with debit/credit card)
    • Showing us the email on your phone is NOT sufficient; we need to physically collect this or cash or money Order; absolutely NO CHECKS allowed!
  3. Driver’s License or Learner’s Permit or DMV-issued ID card
    • If your license was taken away or lost, bring a valid photo ID and a DMV letter or driving record or receipt from DMV or the yellow ticket issued by the police officer.
    • If you received a letter from the DMV instructing you to complete this course, bring it along.

  • Option 1: 8-Hours Drivers Manual/Re-Examination Course
    (For Adults aged 18 or over) or (Teens Under age 18 who have completed Drivers Ed)

(Failed Knowledge Test 3x at DMV) (for individuals with 3 knowledge test failures)

(Failed 3 times at DMV) (For persons with three failures) (THREE EXAM FAIL)

The Drivers Manual Course is designed for individuals who have failed the knowledge test three (3) times at the DMV. This eight (8) hour course is based on the Virginia Drivers Manual and is designed to better prepare individuals for the knowledge test.

Upon successful completion of the course, we will issue you a Re-Examination Certificate (DTS-C) on the same day. Allowing you to IMMEDIATELY return back to the DMV and retake the knowledge test a fourth (4th) and UNLIMITED times (until you pass), in order to obtain a Learners Permit.

Teens (Under 18) who have completed Drivers Education MUST provide the certificate of completion (DEC-1)

Course available in 2 different formats. Pick the option that best suits your learning style & schedule:

  • Option 1a: 8-Hours Drivers Manual/Re-Examination Course (Classroom)

OR

  • Option 1b: 8-Hours Drivers Manual/Re-Examination Course (100% Online)

 

  • Option 2: 30-Hours Online Drivers Education + 90min Parent/Teen Course
    (For Teens under age 18 who have not completed Drivers Ed)
    • If you have failed the knowledge test three (3) times at DMV and are under age 18, and have NOT completed Drivers Education in School, then you MUST take the 30-Hours component of driver education, which also includes the mandatory 90min Parent/Teen course. For Drivers Education, you can select between these 2 options: Virtual/Live Instructor Led (2a) or Online/Self-Paced (2b).

 

 

 

NOTE:

The completion date of the driver's manual course must be after the date of your third (3rd) knowledge test failure.

 

  • Option 3: 7-Hours Behind the Wheel
    (If you failed the DMV Road Test 3 times)
    • If you have failed the DMV road test three (3) times,
      you must take the behind-the-wheel component of driver education.
    • This consists of seven (7) 50-minute periods of in-car driving instruction. If selecting this option, fill out the Registration form on the page you are on now.
  • The Re-Examination course is NOT a traditional lecture style classroom. An available member of staff may guide and assist students with questions; no dedicated staff members will lecture for 8 hours.
  • Should anyone have any learning disabilities/differences or language concerns, please contact our office before completing registration
  • Classes held in Herndon only (see schedule below)

  • Flexible weekday morning, weekday evening & weekend schedule, allows you to maximize hours and complete course in an accelerated format

  • You will not be restricted on the number of attempts and will now have UNLIMITED retakes of the exam (knowledge or behind-the-wheel examination) until you pass.
    • ★ If you do not pass your DMV exam after taking our course, you can come back to us and repeat some hours for extra help, at NO additional charge!
    • ★ Our main goal is to help prepare you pass your exam at the DMV!

  • DMV Certified Instructors
  • Some of our instructors are active and retired police officers, with numerous years of extensive training and experience in traffic law enforcement, emergency driving methods, collision investigation and traffic court proceedings.
  • All of our instructors have many years of driving instruction experience, given professional training and are educated college graduates. They have also received specialized collegiate level training in Drivers Education.
  • In addition, all are licensed as Driver Training Instructors by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), certified by American Automobile Association (AAA) and National Safety Council (NSC).
  • All of our instructors get their fingerprints done every year and are subject to annual national Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background checks and DMV driving record audits.

  • When you arrive at the location, let the staff member know that you are there for the Drivers Manual Re-Examination Course
  • We will need the following items from you:

  • If you are under 18 and wish to take the 8hr Drivers Manual Re-Examination Course, you must provide the original Certificate of completion (DEC-1) of drivers education course (classroom or online)
